Holmby Hills Luxury Real Estate

One of the most expensive neighborhoods in America, Holmby Hills is part of the aptly named Platinum Triangle, along with Bel Air to the north and Beverly Hills to the east. With easy access to downtown Los Angeles, Holmby Hills retains its reputation as a quiet escape from the city. Generous hillside lots have breathtaking views across the city while lush landscaping preserves the privacy of its celebrity residents, business executives and movie moguls. The early development of Holmby Hills began when Arthur Letts Sr. purchased 400 acres of prime hillside in the early 20th century. However, it was his son-in-law, Harold Janss, who transformed the land into the ultimate residential development we see today. Grandiose estates with four-acre lots flourished in the carefully preserved elite neighborhood. Walt Disney built his dream home here, along with Sonny and Cher, Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland. Certain homes such as Hugh Hefner’s Playboy Mansion and the Spelling Mansion, which once commanded an asking price of $150 million, maintain the higher-than-average median price per square foot. Although most estate homes are priced above $10 million, there are some relatively more affordable properties in “Little Holmby”, closer to the UCLA.
Amenities in the Holmby Hills neighborhood are a further incentive to live, work and play in this exclusive residential neighborhood which boasts a range of country clubs dating back to the 1920s. The exclusive Los Angeles Country Club includes a golf course lined by some of the area’s most expensive mansions. More affordable is the public Armand Hammer Pitch and Putt Golf Course where golfers can improve their short game on the 18-hole course in a gorgeous park setting. Further green space is provided by the Holmby Park Bowling Club, established in 1927. The monastery-style five-star Hotel Bel Air and the equally historic Beverly Hills Hotel are both just minutes from Holmby Hills and are frequented by Hollywood agents having power lunches and socialites enjoying afternoon tea. This mecca for gourmet dining also includes the famous Il Cielo restaurant while nightclubs and shopping are just minutes away.
